“You do not get laid in Everlane” says the founder and CEO, Michael Preysman about his San Francisco-based (mostly) online clothing brand. And maybe that’s true. Don’t expect to find any wild prints or flashy low-cut tops at this modern essentials clothing startup. Everlane is the ethically-conscious brand that has built a cult following over its affordable, high-quality not-so-basic basics. In other words, these are classically chic wardrobe pieces (for both men and women) manufactured in ethical factories and sold at prices minus the traditional retail markup. What’s not to love?

           

“Radical transparency” is one of Everlane’s founding principles and they follow through on this promise, even offering customers the exact cost breakdown of each item of clothing they sell – breaking it out between materials, labor, hardware, and transportation. The brand goes so far as to compare its price against traditional retail so you can really feel good about your purchase.

After launching with a single t-shirt in 2011, Everlane’s collection now includes sweaters, denim, jackets, blouses, leggings, shoes, and bags. Every new product launch is an automatic slam dunk for the brand, hence the frequent waitlists in the thousands (!)

Everlane’s simple approach translates to the website’s clean design and easy navigation. A size guide with measurements is provided on each item’s listing as well as a short description and other helpful details like the material and laundry tips. You can even get a glimpse into the actual factory the item was made. Talk about transparency!
