Fivestory is housed inside an immaculate townhome in a “tony” neighborhood of the Upper East Side (between Madison and Fifth Avenues), and from the street, the high-end multi-brand boutique might be a bit unnerving. Just when we felt like we were about to enter a VIP’s private residence, a gracious doorman welcomed us in from the blustery day, and a friendly salesperson invited us to take our time and warm up; they were anything but intimidating, and the rest of the experience was also quite lovely.

Designed by Ryan Korban, the space itself is capital-L Luxurious, as are the racks of beautifully made pieces from coveted labels. On the casual side, Nili Lotan denim, cozy cable knits from A.L.C., and Temperley London separates. Taking a sartorial step into the workday, we found Proenza Schouler’s perfect cropped blazer and linen skirt with artful pleating and buckle details. A pair of buttery [who-knew-they-were] vegan leather pants from Jonathan Simkhai also caught our eye. Spring had clearly sprung at Fivestory: an enchanting, colorblocked Meadow maxi dress by of-the-moment brand, Staud, took centerstage in the main room (with plenty more seasonal frocks on the racks). For evening, a little red dress from Rosetta Getty, and a little black one from Brandon Maxwell, either of which would pair perfectly with Fivestory’s selection of strappy Aquazzura heels, and dazzling Perrin Paris clutches. If budget is not an issue, one could easily find head-to-toe looks at Fivestory, for every day of the week.
Don’t miss Fivestory’s second level, where you’ll discover an exquisite selection of vintage/lightly worn pieces from greatly loved labels. Among the gorgeous finds: an Emilio Pucci maxi dress, Chanel shorts, and a Carolina Herrera metallic cropped jacket - all, like the store itself, in pristine condition.
As we exited Fivestory - no longer intimidated, but inspired - we were warmly encouraged to, “Come see us again soon!” It’s little moments like this which makes shopping brick-and-mortar truly worth the effort.
