After spunky best-friend trio Lisa Foti-Straus, Cassie Mcgettigan, and Nile Nash decided to open the independent, design-collective that is Gravel & Gold back in 2008, the rest is history. It’s essentially another bohemian boutique in SF and we're not upset about it.

While it may be small, focused, and to the point, Gravel & Gold is far more than just an eclectic hub for apparel and candles. Shopping here is a creative experience in itself. They sell a curious mix of garder-chic clothing like daisy-printed slip midi dresses, handmade beauty products like botanical perfume packaged in repurposed clamshells, and indie home secore like woven kelp baskets. Their real draw though are events. Lounging around on cushions eating homemade noodle soup while listening to live music and perusing of-the-minute finds? Don’t know about you but we're down to try.
Walking through the marigold-colored old wooden door and into the 21st street store feels less like walking into a typical boutique and more like entering an under-the-radar hipster hangout spot. An enormous driftwood dinner table dotted with clay vases, hollow dripless candles, cosmic-colored incense ropes among other odds and ends greet you at the front. Wander back and you’ll be met with hanging macrame swings, seashell chandeliers, potted plants of all shapes and sizes, and maybe even a (tasteful) nipple-printed pillow or two.
Their prices are high, but not obscene, which is one of the reasons why Gravel & Gold is high in our books. Whether you’re looking for an unusual gift for someone…..or for yourself, Gravel & Gold rarely disappoints.
