Founded by former Vogue editor and Bay Area native Emily Holt in 2016, Hero Shop is known to fashion insiders as one of San Francisco’s coolest places to shop. Located in Tenderloin, the industrial-chic space is worth stopping into for its decor alone. Dotted with fresh flowers and lush potted plants, it boasts eclectic wooden display tables, exposed metal beams, and loft-style windows that flood the space with natural light. Dressing rooms are located in the back and a double-sided couch sits at the store’s center, making it the perfect place to peruse and try on with leisurely ease.
Using her insider expertise, Holt has curated a dream selection of eye-popping ready-to-wear from an array of the trendiest brands du jour. All of her employees are extremely knowledgeable and have a similarly honed eye, so you should take advantage of their complimentary styling service. When thumbing through the racks, you’ll find patterned dresses and matching bags from cult-favorite Danish brand Ganni as well as tie dye crewneck sweaters from The Elder Statesman and cheeky swimwear from Lisa Marie Fernandez. Printed dresses from DJ Harley Viera Newton’s HVN line also hang out in the space, as do elegant skirts and minimalist tops by environmentally conscious label Gabriela Hearst.
As with its clothing, Hero Shop’s accessories run the gamut in price but adhere to an elevated level of taste. Along with summery leather footwear from Ancient Greek Sandals and convenient carryalls from Baggu, it stocks colorful jelly hoop earrings by Alison Lou next to hand-carved jewels punctuated by pearls and other precious stones by Of Rare Origins.
And the gifts. Oh, the gifts! The boutique’s tables are covered in covetable items like gummy bear puzzles and divinely scented candles as well as graphic sweatshirts and Vertly CBD bath products, meaning you’ll never have to break a sweat over finding that perfect something for your most stylish friend again.
