There is a certain type of New York woman who frequents La Garconne, and we would like to be her. In brief: her style is minimal, while her spending limit is maximal. And her taste?
Superb.
La Garconne began as an online-only luxury fashion retailer in 2005, and in 2014, expanded to brick-and-mortar in New York’s Tribeca neighborhood (the aforementioned woman also lives in this zip code). Today, the store is a downtown destination for the latest luxury labels, featuring the season’s most coveted pieces from avant-garde allstars like Comme des Garcons and Jil Sander, as well as new names to watch very closely, like Copenhagen’s Henrik Vibskov and London darling, Molly Goddard.
The atmosphere inside La Garconne is spacious, streamlined, and serene - high ceilings, color-blocked racks, the faintest scent of zen fragrance in the air (breathe in … breathe out …). The clothes are the main event, and the store’s impeccably curated racks present only the best of the best - from over 200 international designers. If you’re a Rei Kawakubo fan (and if you’re not, YOU SHOULD BE), La Garconne is your happy place: the selection is perfection. If you think minimalism is never minimalist enough, the store’s Jil Sander and Stephan Schneider racks are calling your name, with perfectly tailored wardrobe classics. Top off your new crisp cotton Dusan shirt-dress with a long black trench from The Row, or an army green one from Lemaire, and a pair of sleek Acne Studios block-heeled booties (all in stock).

For those seeking a side of sparkle or sheen with their minimalist main course, La Garconne sees you; our top finds included a sporty silver nylon drop-waist tank dress from Sara Lanzi (fun, functional, and made in Italy = checks all the boxes!), ruffled frocks and plisse perfections from Simone Rocha and Khaite, respectively, and understated jewelry from Sophie Buhai.
The friendly staff at La Garconne let us peruse the racks with little interruption, which - as someone who does NOT possess the aforementioned woman’s budget, but who does appreciate and respect the art of fashion - is yet another asset to the shopping experience. A girl can dream, right?
