Located just two blocks north of Washington Square Park and the heart of NYU, the vibe and merchandise at Lexie speak to the Village people. No, we’re not talking about the 1970s disco group of “YMCA” fame (although, they’d probably like this store, too), but the modern-day, smartly dressed residents of Greenwich Village - many undoubtedly graduates of NYU, like Lexie Ellman, who founded the namesake boutique five years ago.

There is definitely a neighborly, Village feel inside this shop; one of the most genuinely friendly and engaging sales associates we’ve recently encountered, Olivia, warmly welcomed us and went on to share insight on the store’s contemporary and childrenswear brands, as well as offer some great styling and gifting ideas, and invite us to Lexie’s next designer pop-up. Speaking of which: the boutique routinely hosts such events, like the Michelle Waugh pop-up which was happening the day we stopped by.

While Michelle Waugh’s cool, cropped, pinstripe puffer and other one-of-a-kind printed outerwear caught our eye, it was Lexie’s selection of fresh spring merchandise that made us want to leave the coat at home already and break out the SPF! The store features an array of both popular and under-the-radar labels; among our top finds were fun, ruffled maxi-dresses from Rhode, a generous selection of vintage-inspired frocks and feminine blouses from The Great by Current Elliott, and beautiful washed-satin separates from Aquarius Cocktail - the brand’s Roberta bias-cut skirt in soft lilac with just a touch of golden sparkle is practically begging Mother Nature for a 70-degree day. Most of these pieces are versatile enough to be dressed up with heels for a night out in the Village, or dressed down with sneakers for an afternoon of coffee and people watching at the Washington Square Arch.

Even if you don’t have a little one to shop for, you simply cannot miss the charming children’s racks at Lexie, where you’ll find irresistible pieces like New York Bebe’s tie-dye hoodies and Louise Misha’s ruffled swimsuits that you’ll wish came in grown-up sizes! With a kids’ selection this adorable, it’s no surprise that real-life Lexie is a mom herself.
