Angsty messages and profoundly good reads are a hallmark of Lower East Coast in the toney Miami Design District, located just across the street from Tom Ford. Customers are a solid mix of skaters, street bikers, artists and those that appreciate the energy of a shop devoted to all things urban.

Half of the space is devoted to artistic books and small niche magazines such as Loop, Lightning, Brutus and Popeye, a publication self-designated for city boys. The books include hard-to-find originals, covering topics from art to travel to Chicago Polan’s Every Person in New York mobsters. A favorite find is artist/author Jason Polan’s “Every Person in New York”, a sketchbook with poignant unspoken commentary. Ease into the wooden benches conveniently situated by bright windows for a quick look.

Skaters, anime enthusiasts, and street culture shoppers are rewarded with a large selection of tees, hoodies, and pants from Stray Rats, including bucket hats in faux leopard fur. A current collaboration with Maharishi features bowling shirts embroidered with cherry blossoms and white rats. Marni is another well represented brand with iconic shirts in bold florals to pair with chili and black two-tone jeans and leather clogs. Most of the attire is menswear or unisex, but a nice selection of Carhartt WIP offers some items cut for women, including tees and bib overalls.

Accessories include leather lanyard wallets, incense, candles, totes, and a collection of caps, including the popular Fungi hat by The Good Company.

Pop in, play a video game and browse the fun mix of movie memorabilia and collectibles. Lower East Coast is worth the trip.
