Upper East Side boutique, Mixology, shares its name with the term for mixing cocktails in an artful or scientific manner. While the ingredients in Mixology’s style shaker may not be quite as haute or heady as the ingredient list at popular neighborhood cocktail bar, The Penrose, there are definitely some trendy flavors in Mixology’s recipe.
Mixology is undoubtedly a recurring destination for local twenty-something girls who find themselves staring at their (very full) closets in advance of a big night out, and declaring, “I have nothing to wear!” We stopped by the Third Avenue outpost on a late Saturday afternoon - crunch time for date night and last minute girls’ night out shopping. The brightly lit, sizable boutique was buzzing with customers looking for the outfit, and finding options like on-trend floral crop tops from brands including Faithfull, Shabby Chic, and Brooklyn Karma. While in recent years there have been entire think pieces dedicated to the “death of the going out top” (really - Google it), Mixology proves that this staple found in every woman’s closet (admit it already!) is very much alive and well on the Upper East Side.

Mixology’s selection of little black dresses is also noteworthy - at just $52, a classic LBD from A World Away was a particularly budget-friendly find. Other easy on the wallet merchandise included trendy Vervet high-rise skinny jeans for $48, and faux snakeskin leggings from Commando. The store also carries cute cropped blazers and paper-bag waist shorts from go-to brand BB Dakota - pieces that would work for casual Friday as well as an after-work happy hour.
The emphasis on trend is apparent at Mixology - plenty of fun little pieces that won't break the bank, but probably won't last forever, either - at least not if you’re living your Saturday night to the fullest.
