What comes to mind when you think “California”? Throngs of matcha-sipping 20-somethings? Laidback vibes and sunshine? Streets filled with hipster shops selling $300 tank tops and vintage records? Well, The Voyager Shop is as “California” as you’re gonna get.
Located on Valencia Street, in the heart of SF’s vibrant Mission District, The Voyager Shop fits right in alongside its neighbors of other indie small businesses. Their selection is cool, but not too cool that it’s inaccessible. We’re talking top-notch quality monochrome outfits, androgenous silhouettes in airy linen fabrics, woody-scented artisan perfumes, and painfully expensive, but irresistible, knickknacks of all kinds.

Though spacious and tastefully decorated, the space itself isn’t nearly as trendy as the brands they carry. But when the shelves are stocked with excellently curated labels like Black Crane, FAAN, and Just Female, we’re willing to overlook the borderline cluttered racks. Kiwi-printed culottes, yin and yang wool mules, and oversized Medusa earrings are standout pieces in their expansive choosing. And the home decor? Their infamous selection ranges from downright charming to undeniably-trendy-but-might-be-wise-to-hide-when-the-in laws-visit (we’re looking at you nipple shaped succulent pot).
While their intimidatingly-cool staff look like the kind of people who go on yoga retreats and wouldn't consider milk that isn’t made from oats, they’re crazy knowledgeable about the products and surprisingly approachable. Next time you find yourself wandering the colorful streets of the Mission District, The Voyager Shop is a worthwhile visit. When you’re all shopped out, head next door to Four Barrel Coffee for a nice $8 latte and maple bacon donut.
