The words “haute couture” and “Charleston” aren’t commonly used in the same sentence, yet somehow Worthwhile perfectly captures the essence of both. Founded in 1993 and housed in a repurposed 19th century general store, Worthwhile has been fulfilling King street’s hipster fashion needs for over 20 years.

One part All Saints, one part Anthropologie, and one part art gallery, the store embodies a classically-charming yet kitschy-in-a-cool-way aesthetic. The original dark-mahogany shelving offers the perfect juxtaposition to the racks of flamingo-pink dresses and retro sunglasses. One step inside and you’ll be begging for the number of their interior decorator.

Carrying everything from basic nude button-ups to shamrock-green clogs, their selection covers all the bases. Most of us aren’t actively on the hunt for the perfect pair of Chilote house shoes….but when they’re made of organic vegetable-tanned saddle leather? Don’t even try to resist.

Stumped on the hunt for the perfect gift? Peruse their assortment of blown-glass vases, sandalwood-scented reed diffusers, and locally-made Charleston quilts. They even have wall lights that look like croissants. Is there really any way you can go wrong with carb-inspired home decor?

Their stunning store atmosphere and curation of small designers are noteworthy, but what really pushes them over the edge is their unique ability to make “avant-garde” obtainable. Needless to say, stop by Worthwhile next time you are on King Street, it will definitely be worth your while!
